Sorry it took so long to update…I was in Spain!!
I can't believe that I have hit the two month mark already! I feel like I just got here. So last week was nothing all that exciting, just the norm—school, soccer, running. However on Thursday, a group of friends and I went into the streets of Montpellier to see the Presidential candidate Francois Hollande. It is a close call between Hollande and Sarkozy right now, but everyone has been telling me that I met the "next President of France."
We all tried to get a better view :)
After school, Emma and I rode the bus home and then came home to a package from my Aunt Val! We were thrilled, and Emma loooooved the chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels.
On Friday, I watched a movie in German with French subtitles in history. We are learning about the Totalitarian governments before and during World War II. Luckily I love history and know WWII like the back of my hand; so learning it in French was not as hard as I thought it would be! After school, the weather was really nice so I went on a bike ride with Emma down to see the horses. We then laid low and just had a mellow night.
Saturday, our family went to a party! Me, Ludmila, our friend Laura, and a few other people I met hung out in the backyard and talked and played games. It was really, really fun! We stayed out until 2 am and then finally went home. The next morning, I had to get up at 7:30 for my soccer game. My team is full of great, fun people! But they are not necessarily good at soccer…we lost 8-0. We did play the first place team though, so it's ok :) I came home to a wonderful lunch with the family! It was nice and sunny and we ate outside.
Olivier's brother came and visited for lunch! That is him on the left
We had lamb and a tomato salad.
After we had strawberries and a yogurt topping called "Fromage Blanc"
After lunch, I packed my bags for Spain!! I went with Ludmila's class (1 S3) and the international Spanish class to Fundacio Gala and Catalonia for Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, the weather was so hot! We all hung out at the beach and then headed to the Greek and Roman ruins.

Spanish Beaches ~
This is a statue that was constructed a very, very long time ago…I didn't quite catch the exact year :)
These are the Roman ruins from when they originally took over the Spanish lands
We went on a tour of the ruins, and it was all in Spanish! Luckily some of the students in Terminal speak fluent Spanish, English, French (one even spoke Russian) and they were able to translate for me. After our tour of the Roman ruins (which was all stones) we all went back to hotel. Me, Lud, Milena, Laura, and Sara went into town for a little bit and then came back and had dinner. After dinner everyone had 4 hours to do whatever—go into town, the beach, walk around. Most of us went to the beach though. The five of us and Emile and Darryl went with terminal (the equivalent to seniors) down to a hidden part of cove and hung out for a few hours. Everyone was so nice and fun and I made a bunch of new friends!

Mes amis!
Me and Milena!!
My friends and I are to the right side!
The next morning we left and went into Fundacio Gala and me, Nathalie, Ludmila, Sara, and Laura made a quick stop at Salvatore Dali museum. He had some of the coolest/weirdest art I have ever seen!
He switched the nose and the ear...
We had to walk up a bunch of stairs and look through a glass magnifier to see this face. On the floor it was two paintings, a table, and a sculptor that looked like lips.
The outside of the museum is decorated with eggs…
I am now home!! I came home to TWO MORE PACKAGES! From my amazing Aunt Amy and Uncle Christian, and my best friend Hayley. I have the best family and friends in the world. Thank you
All my new stuff :) You guys are the best!
Up beat, lucky ducky, happy camper, smarty pants! :) Thanks Aunt Amy!

I am missing home! But I know that all my friends and family will be there in just a few short months! So its time to live it up! :) It is almost Easter, and Emma has been begging Nathalie to have an easter egg hunt! It sounds like it is going to be a lot of fun. I hope your Easter is great and you are all enjoying the spring!
AND A HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BEST FRIEND EVER!! Love you Hayley!

Ahhhhhhh...Spain!! Did you forget your bathing suit for the beach?
ReplyDeleteLove that you are running a lot! Such a great way to 'see' and get a feel of your new town! Looks like amazing scenery...very different from Tustin eh? I went for a run in the dark last week. I had to test out my head lamp and vest. So bizarro running in the dark, but so calm and quiet. When you are back we can do it!!
The weather here is amazing. We were at beach all day yesterday and at the pool the day before- feels like summer! Your siblings are on their way now....we will do beach or pool again! so excited to have them for a few days! Coby is still quite concerned that you are in France. He wants you to be here too!! Me too!! In only 4 months we will see you...so you are right LIVE IT UP!!!
I think I want to decorate the outside of my house with very large eggs. That is so funny. Wonder what he was thinking when he decided to go with eggs!
Turn-up??? UP-BEAT!!! You silly goose.
I need you to hit an art store in the next month...I will get you the name, but I need a special glow in the dark paint that is sold in France. I will explain via email.
We will miss you for Easter~ but more happy than anything for you and your great 'family'!!!
Love you tons Mandy!!!

GREAT POST, Amanda! The Valentes are living vicariously through you! Hey, your Mom and I were talking about the stolen Iphone from your last post. There was a similar story in the news last week here where a woman had a strong suspicion who had stolen her phone. A policeman with the "Find my Iphone" app on his personal phone was standing nearby when the phone was stolen. When the owner told him what happened, he handed his phone to her, she signed in on HIS phone, and they quietly crept up on the guy. When they were next to him, they did the "PLAY SOUND" part, and SURPRISE! The phone started making a sound in the crook's pocket. THANK YOU - NOW GIVE IT BACK! You mom suggested I mention that to make sure that you have installed the "Find my Phone" app on your Iphone, and your friend's have installed it on theirs. That way, if one person loses theirs or it is stolen, you can sign in quickly, hit "locate phone" and it will show where it is and you can find it or show the police. But don't chase any criminals!! Have FUN!!
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm Chiara! I want to go to France for a year and your blog is awesome and I was hoping maybe you would have time to tell me about the school there and the application process and how easy it is to get to France. Thank you!
